Travel letter from the Editor
Finish work on Friday, go home and get
ready to go out for dinner with the family;
go home and pack suitcase; give advice
and instructions to housesitter son and
daughter in law: “Remember this, don’t
forget that”; go to bed too late, unrestful
sleep; get up; more advice; check passport
tickets; have a shower and breakfast, go
for a last minute shopping of ‘necessity’;
check tickets and passports; throw a few
more items in the suitcase “just in case”;
close and lock suitcase: “Is it that late?”,
throw stuff in the boot of the car, hop in
the car and get going with son at the
wheel, get out at Departures entrance,
check in and sit down in the waiting area
and be tired, very tired!
Does this sound familiar? Maybe it is
only me but it doesn’t seem to matter
how much or how early I start planning,
there is never enough time the last couple
of days before leaving. Nevertheless we
got on the plane and got going on time.
This time we fly Singapore Airlines and
KLM and I can recommend both but S.A.
is a bit ahead of the rest, I have tried. I
thoroughly enjoyed the meals and the
service on board.
Arriving in Copenhagen Airport was a bit
strange as it had changed quite a bit since
my last visit there. We were met, early
Sunday morning, by a nice suntanned
Dane from the car rental company and off
we went into a quiet Sunday morning
with the sun shining in our tired faces.
The 6 degree temperature woke us up
though!
A couple of friends living at Amager just
a few minutes from the airport got their
surprise of the day if not the year as we
turned up unexpected. They recovered

well and quickly and we were soon sitting
at our first welcoming table of goodies
and caffeine-laden Danish coffee. Thank
you Anette and Jens it was great seeing
you and chatting with you again!
We managed to find my sister’s and
brother in law’s house just outside
Skippinge on Sjælland (Zealand) without
too many hassles. Last time in 1999 the
last 5 kilometres took us about two hours.
It was night time then though. Maybe
directions were better this time around?
They live on a “hobby farm” with chooks
and two dogs. The sheep and pigs
became too much work and trouble and
not much pleasure so they had to go. A
welcoming Dannebrog could be seen
from far away and the driveway was lined
with small paper flags, a beautiful sight.
The Danish landscape a bit dark still but
in the gardens daffodils are blooming and
other little hardy yellow and blue flowers
are bravely shooting up everywhere. The
trees are still black but the buds are about
to burst open. With the beautiful sunny
weather Spring is right upon us. The
weather profets are predicting the Easter
weather to be sunny and 20 degrees C.
We managed to stay awake till late
Monday night visiting my brother and his
wife and daughter in Haslev. Today is
Tuesday 15 th of April and we will be out
and about tomorrow being tourists in the
area. We will go and see the Russian
steamship, Dunkan, which sank off
Kalundborg last year. The ship has been
salvaged by volunteers, a group of locals
forming a group calling themselves
Dunkan’s Friends.A couple of German
engineers, very knowledgeable in
steamships, have collected photo
