MARCH GOLF
“He enjoys that perfect peace, that
peace beyond all understanding,
which comes at its maximum only to
the man who has given up golf.”
P.G. Wodehouse.
While watching golf the other day on
television it occurred to me that T.V.
announcers who tell us that a player is
going to use a particular club to hit the
ball a certain distance to the pin are in
radio contact with the caddie. The Tour
caddie would know the course intimately
so I would guess are paid to feed the
announcer information as he moves
around the course with the player.
Perhaps we should have followed Jens
Antonsen around the Caboolture course
on the 30
th XX, and anyone wishing to know what
second place getter Hanne achieved will
be supplied with a brown, unmarked
envelope containing the score, the
information will be handed over in the
toilets of Central Railway Station (by
. to see how he reached the
heights with a well earnt 76 in ‘A’ grade.
And writing of heights, we all know that
Denmark is a flat country but did you
know that the highest point in the country
is on top of a pylon that supports the
Great Belt Bridge that links Funen (Fyn)
and Zealand (Sjælland). Reaching the
heights was not exactly what the next
player did to come second with a score of
arrangement).
The course was nice, the weather great if
hot, however the golf wasn’t the best for
many balls lay abandoned and lost unlike
Eric Broeng who was not lost or
abandoned claiming 77 in ‘B’ grade
followed closely by Torben Riise on 79
and a surprising 86 shot by Grant
Wilksch. Eight was a good number for
Jens who got the only “nearest the pin”
and followed up with 34 puts but was
only one ahead of Bill who claimed the
“B’ grade prize.
Being crook I wasn’t at the meet to see
our gallant bunch play their first game at
Caboolture but as always enjoyment was
allowed and welcomed, as it will on the
27 th . April at Keppera, with the 7:15 tee
off.
Happy golfing,
William.
