Here in Copenhagen the whole university life is characterised by a friendly and personal atmosphere. Classes are much smaller than in Germany, and with all the facilities offered to the students it sometimes feels like a holiday resort. Surprisingly, for German students there was no knocking on the tables or applause to thank the professor at the end of each lecture. For me, this also demonstrates the equality of professors and students at university in Copenhagen. Everyone knows that it’s quite difficult to find a room or flat in Copenhagen. For International students it’s nearly impossible. The International Office searches rooms for exchange students, which is a big help, but you can’t influence where, with whom and how you’ll live there. It could be possible that you don’t have a shower, a clean bathroom or kitchen, you’re not allowed to have any guests, or can’t use the living room. Another article could be filled with all of the stories I have heard about flats and “crazy” landlords. It’s a little bit unfortunate that besides your mentor it is difficult to get to know other Danes. Everybody is extremely friendly but any closer contact has often proved to be difficult. On the other hand you have the opportunity to meet many other exchange students from all over the world, which is exciting as well. If you want to meet some nice foreign boys and girls Studenterhuset is definitely “the place to be” on Wednesday night. It’s very easy to meet new people - just go there, ask them where they come from - and there you are… So, that was my attempt to write a critical article about what life is like in Copenhagen for an International Student. It feels a little bit like I’ve been complaining about everything, but that’s not how I meant to come across! However, if some things could be improved then the International Students could possibly even have a better time here in Copenhagen. Copenhagen is a brilliant city with lots of great people, countless fun things to do, and quite simply I’ve had one of the best times in my life over the past three months. When I was asked to write something about life as an international student in Copenhagen I wanted to say I couldn’t put all my experiences into words. I was told to write a short critical article, which has actually proved to be very difficult….. but here is my attempt!

Because I have been to Copenhagen before and I liked the city, and when I saw that Copenhagen University was a partner-university I chose that. All the courses offered in English were also a big plus. 2. Chokoladekage. Jeg vil gerne have en stor fadøl. Jan, Austria 1. Because of the language (courses in English), the weather and the food. A main reason is that the Austrian government gives you more money when you go to Denmark, because of the high price level. 2. Hej-Hej Kathrin, Austria 1.
