THE FRAMES
The frames for all our products are made of high-quality, robust materials processed with the highest
degree of manual craftsmanship. There is a choice of three materials:
For our foldable frames, we use high-strength, high-alloy strip and round bar steel. We protect them
against the elements with a state-of-the-art surface finish. In the process we use (which is commonplace
in the automobile industry), the frames are galvanised and sealed, acrylic powder-coated and
hardened at approx. 250°C. In addition, all joints have zinc sockets. However, they do still require
the occasional drop of oil to ensure smooth operation and also to provide protection against corrosion
inside the joints. Nylon slides offer further protection for chair and table legs, avoiding damage to
expensive floor coverings, scratches and abrasion of the paint. The slats are connected to the frame
with continuous stainless steel carriage bolts and self-locking stainless steel nuts.
Our stainless steel frames are the non plus ultra, "built for eternity". We use non-rusting steel of
quality V2A. The steel is processed to form frames, which are then stained and brushed by hand to
remove or smooth all traces of the welding or finishing process and "scarring" of the surface, giving
it a luxurious matt silk finish. The action of the steel tools used to bend, punch and drill the stainless
steel leaves microscopically small iron particles on the surface of the frames. The staining and
brushing processes also remove this residue. In extremely rare cases, however, particularly
"stubborn" iron particles may survive this cleaning process and lead to light surface rusting when
the furniture is used outdoors. However, this rust will not "attack" the stainless steel itself or impair
its quality. Brushing with a stainless steel brush or cleaning with a standard household liquid cleaning
agent for stainless steel will quickly and easily remove this surface rust and other deposits caused by
exposure to the elements.
The high-alloy aluminum used for our furniture is alloyed to fine mechanical standards (contains
silumin, is acid- and waterproof). The high resistance to pressure and bending means that the
profiles can be made with thin walls and also make them lightweight, which facilitates handling of
the furniture. All prominent parts such as armrests, the edges of the backrest and the seat shell are
made of high-quality diecast, thus making it unnecessary to use welded connections, which, though
commonly used, are both unattractive and sus ceptible. This high-tech processing is rounded off by
the application of a state-of-the-art powder coating.
