Mag. ALINA SCHMIDT, MA, studied Law atthe University<br />
of Vienna and Consumer Affairs atBrunel<br />
University (London) and Universidad de Barcelona,<br />
whereshe specialisedinProduct and Service Safety.<br />
After her studies she completedaninternship at the<br />
Product Safety Unit of the European Commission in<br />
Brussels. Currently she worksonher PhD thesis concerning<br />
the European Citizens’ Initiative. Alina is<br />
fluentinGerman, Russian, English and Spanish.<br />
JOACHIM THALER studied Environment and Bio-resources<br />
Management inVienna. After an internship<br />
at Greenpeace, he is currently volunteering for the<br />
Ludwig Boltzmann Institute ofHuman Rights. He is<br />
fascinated bycivil society movements, especially in<br />
the fields of the environmentand humanrights, and<br />
is interested in how citizens’ desire for political<br />
changecan be transformed into action.<br />
