Success stories despite a crisis in growth<br />
Due to its production and its products the<br />
automobile industry has changed society<br />
immensely in the long term. At the same<br />
time it is itself subject to considerable and<br />
constant changes. This applies to the product,<br />
to production, and to the markets<br />
and manufacturing locations. The current<br />
situation is characterised by the following<br />
developments:<br />
● The automobile industry in Western<br />
Europe has transformed into a two-tier<br />
society in recent years.<br />
● So far premium manufacturers have<br />
managed to survive the crisis relatively<br />
unscathed due to growth rates in<br />
non-European markets.<br />
● The crisis in the automobile industry has<br />
led to the lowest new vehicles registrations<br />
in Western Europe in 19 years.<br />
● For the most part, the globalisation<br />
of production locations and development<br />
centres is not affecting small and<br />
medium-sized enterprises.<br />
● The regions of automobile growth play<br />
hardly any role in terms of turnover.<br />
