In the publishing field, the 18 th and 19 th
centuries were characterized by a multitude
of newly founded literary, scientific
and practical periodicals. A corpus of 520
periodicals is selected in this edition on
the basis of an expertise drawn up by librarians
and scientists. These periodicals
were transferred completely to microfiche.
So the selected periodicals in this largescale
project supported by the Kulturstiftung
der Länder are now available
on a larger scale than it was hitherto the
case.
An additional benefit is that the endangered
original volumes of the periodicals
are no longer necessary for scientific research.
This microfiche edition can be
used in order to copy important essays
from the periodicals. The periodicals are
transferred to microfiche with the standard
factor 24:1. This format ensures perfect
copying of the essays from the periodicals.
It has been shown that no library possesses
more than 30% of the stocks included
here. These are frequently incomplete
for the individual years, so that some
periodicals had to be compiled from different
libraries. With this full-text edition we
now have a basis for scientitic studies!
