asically, we are
like cooks
With a goal in mind,
we develop a concept,
a composition, whose
ingredients we assem-
ble, fine-tune and use
in optimum amounts.
We work with a range
of top-quality products
and we know their
effects, whether indivi-
dually or in combina-
tion with others.
Successful spaces fulfil
their purpose, reach the
desired target group and
retain their quality for decades.
This can only be achieved
if the use of spatial proportion,
materials, interior design
elements and light is planned
with utmost care (and necessary
skill) or simply with ingenuity.
Few architects master this
skill, partly because they often
approach things from a different
angle or have different
priorities. Peter Zumthor, for
example, is currently one of
the major exceptions. (Kolumba
Museum Cologne, Therme
Vals, Klaus Chapel Mechenich
etc.).
Interior architects are like medical
specialists in Germany
in that they undergo specialist
training in construction,
surface materials (with disciplines
including textile, metal,
glass, stone and all of their relatives)
and especially the use
of light.
This also includes furniture
and related decor, i.e. interior
design, but that is only a small
part of the overall service.
However, this is often misconceived
by clients who regard
the interior architect and interior
designer as one and the
same.
The interior architect should
be involved in the project as
early as possible to develop a
spatial concept together with
the client and the architect,
whilst determining the position
of walls, window openings,
doors as well as wall or ceiling
cut-outs in accordance with
the spatial philosophy. This
creates values which leave a
lasting spatial impression with
the user.
For many years, we have been
developing solutions for state-of-the-art
4–5 star hotels
as well as for restaurants and
bars, but also high-end private
homes, practices and lawyers’
offices. At international level,
we were involved in the inte-
interior arcHticture | portrait
rior architecture of the buildings
around the F1 circuit
with Herman Tilke in Abu
Dhabi, and our largest current
project is the design of the 5*
“SEA ONE” hotel on the seafront
of Tel Aviv.
We like working with contrasts!
To experience height,
one should first experience a
low, narrow space; a sump-
tuous material should be felt
in contrast with a pure and
simple one. The dramatic impact
of a space results from the
interplay of calculable light,
proportion, surfaces, interior
design and artistic concept.
(Pharmacists don’t have it easy
either).
As is the case with product
or industrial design, it is the
design quality of a space that
creates distinct market relevance.
We research the latest
products, technologies, building
materials and lifestyle environments
at specialist trade
fairs in Kortrijk, Paris, Milan
and, above all, Cologne.
