Für Besucher, die die z.T. weiten Anmarschwege und
Wanderungen in die Tiefe des Nationalparks nicht auf
sich nehmen wollen oder können, besteht im Nationalpark
Bayerischer Wald die Möglichkeit, Wildtiere in großzügig
angelegten Freigehegen zu erleben. Dies ist zugleich ein
Element aktiver Besucherlenkung, die zu große Besuchermengen
von den Kerngebieten des Parkes abhält.
Zusammenfassung
Tourismus und Wildtiere sind damit kein Gegensatz,
sondern im Gegenteil stellen die Wildtiere eine der touristischen
Attraktionen des Nationalparks dar. Notwendig
ist allerdings ein sorgfältiges Besuchermanagement, das
dieses Erlebnis mit einem Minimum an Störung ermöglicht.
Abstract
National parks have four main goals: nature conservation
(at least 75% of the area), environmental education,
recreation and research.
National parks are usually highly attractive for tourism
and recreation and most visitors expect an unspoiled wilderness
experience. Therefore, one of the main tasks for
the park administration is visitor management. Research
on habitat requirements and habits of wild animals’ forms
the basis for the visitor management in the National Park
“Bayrischer Wald”. There is no hunting in this National
Park because animals would become active during the
night and keep greater distance to visitors. Consequently,
visitors have more possibilities to experience these

wild animals.
There are also guided tours by national park staff who
provide visitors with information and ensure correct behaviour.
It is necessary to translate research results into
a universally comprehendible language. Visitors who do
not want to walk very far can also experience wildlife in
outdoor enclosures. This results at the same time active
visitor management, keeping the mass of visitors out of
the core zone of the park.
So, tourism and wildlife do not contradict each other.
Wildlife is one of the tourist attractions of the park. But
visitor management is necessary to ensure a wildlife experience
and to keep wildlife disturbance at a minimum.
