GETTING TO KNOW THE VISCOUNTWe recommend that before starting your walk-around you press the ‘security’ switchin the virtual cockpit to load the passenger stairs <strong>and</strong> ground vehicle. Open thedoors <strong>and</strong> position the stewardess to greet passengers (Shift + E then 4).The Viscount’s design was exceptionally ‘clean’ for the period. Great care had been takento maximise the power of the turboprops by fairing everything in aerodynamic shapes.From the front, the aircraft presents a sleek streamlined shape with very fewprotuberances to restrict airflow. The engines themselves are very space-efficient <strong>and</strong> fitsnugly into their streamlined cowlings.The undercarriage is quite conventional but breaks at the ‘knees’ to fold up neatly into thewells so as to avoid any unnecessary bulges.The wings are quite slender yet incorporate the aircraft’s four fuel tanks <strong>and</strong>accompanying systems as well as de-icing equipment. They carry a full set ofconventional flaps <strong>and</strong> ailerons.The extremely neat ‘barrel’ shaped nacelles enclose the engines completely, leaving justfaired-in air intakes <strong>and</strong> access hatches visible on the outside.The propellers themselves are fully feathering Rotol unitsThere are two main passenger doors, one forward <strong>and</strong> one aft, <strong>and</strong> baggagecompartments <strong>and</strong> window areas are generous, affording passengers superior views of thecountryside below.12
