There is no single hacker profile, and that's what makes them dangerous. It's possible for a
hacker to mingle with ordinary society and go undetected for long periods of time, as long
as he doesn't open his mouth.
Here are the most common hacker traits and characteristics to look for if you suspect a
hacker has slipped into your life. Watch for them. Be on your guard. If someone you know
or love begins to exhibit these signs, it's probably already too late. Once someone has
turned to a computer for companionship, affection and emotional support you might as
well find a replacement. He'll never come back.
The Hacker:
1. Has a steel-trap mind
2. Is very bright
3. Is an overachiever
4. Gets good to excellent grades
5. Cannot accept failure
6. Can be dangerously devious
7. Lives like a hermit
8. Capable of committing the "perfect crime"
9. Is a direct descendent of the slide rule wizard
10. Half man, half machine
11. Can multiply large numbers in his head
12. Is a master of logical mysteries
13. Believes he is privy to the secrets of the ages
14. Subliminally suggests he knows something you don't and never will
15. Often looks like a dropout from Woodstock generation
16. Demands a high salary and believes he is worth more
17. Can be a consummate team player
18. Needs no sleep
19. Subsists on very little food
20. Smells mildly of Szechuan Chinese food
21. His primary Interaction on planet is with his computer
22. Has pockets full of pencils
23. May not shave yet
24. Knows what all those little buttons on a calculator do
