Chanarin, Sophie Calle, Edmund Clark & Crofton Black, Thomas
Demand, Bogomir Ecker, Harun Farocki, Jenny Holzer, Sven Johne,
Annette Kelm, Mårten Lange, Richard Mosse, Trevor Paglen,
Peter Piller, Barbara Probst, Thomas Ruff.
Control has many facets: it comprises the surveillance by others
or by oneself. However, it also implies the possibility of evading
control or even the loss of control. In most forms of control and
monitoring, photography or other imaging media play a central role.
They belong to a surveillance apparatus and thus become instruments
for the exercise of power and authority. Artists address this critical
relationship between cameras and control by appropriating its
technical means and thereby rendering visible its operating mechanism.
The vital question here is: which breaking points and possibilities
for change can be revealed? The exhibition presents works by
Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin, Sophie Calle, Edmund Clark &
Crofton Black, Thomas Demand, Bogomir Ecker, Harun Farocki,
Jenny Holzer, Sven Johne, Annette Kelm, Mårten Lange, Richard
Mosse, Trevor Paglen, Peter Piller, Barbara Probst, Thomas Ruff,
among others.
