A view back - a view forward
The year 2010 was a good and special
year for Riegel wine import. We celebrated
our 25th anniversary with many customers,
friends, old and new companions.
In the market we have still going on a concentration
process on one side and the
professionalization of the organic market,
especially Organic Retailers, in the positive
way on the other side.
The good economic atmosphere has helped
to reverse the trend towards cheaper
wines. On average we had sold many high
quality wines. France continues to lose market
share to Spain. Because of the sudden
rise in domestic demand French wines are
relatively expensive. We have the highest
increase of 86% in the high-quality German
wines on account of our commitment
to top-quality German wines and winemakers
and their support. It`s a pleasure
to have new cooperation’s with the VDP
winemakers Peter Jakob Kühn and Philipp
Wittmann and the Riesling project with
Bürklin-Wolf is increasing even after a few
month.
We are well prepared for 2011 and plan
The encouraging growth of Riegel wine
import creates a number of new jobs.
Last year we were able to employ some
competent colleagues for support:
Our new national sales manager Ulrich
Leibbach has many years of experience in
the trading of wine, champagne and spirits.
We are delighted to have again Henry
Mühlbauer with us. Since July he is developing
the market in the north. Felix Riegel
joined the family business as the manager
of office duty after six years at Mack &
Schühle. Cecilia Gonzalez, a native Mexican,
supports the purchasing department.
Claudia Stehle is back to the marketing
accordingly. The German and Austrian vineyards
have left a lot of damage caused by
a wet summer and less sunshine in autumn.
On account of this, plain wines will have a
scarcity and an increasing price. The best
locations and the absolute top wines tend
to be less affected, as always.
Southern France had the third small harvest
in a row, but here the qualities are very
good. After a cool summer the September
was really hot with temperatures about 40
degrees. Despite the heat, the grapes retained
much acid, so that even we have a lot
of good Rosé wines and they are including
much alcohol.
Spain and Italy had, quantitatively and
qualitatively, a good harvest. Especially
from Spain we have received very interesting
samples of wine. After the good Red
wines, the winemakers get focused to the
production of good White wines and Rosé
wines. Noticeably Spanish companies have
in recent years invested in improving their
hygiene and their cellar technology.
Overall, we can look forward to a good successful
year.
department after having a baby, Marie
Bräuning is back to the marketing team
after getting experience at the Swiss wine
world, and Natalia Vivas from Argentina is
completing the team. As a trainee Katrin
Engehausen is getting experience in organic
wine import . Most recently, we are
looking for reinforcements for customer
service at sales office and external duty.
We are offering a traineeship in wholesale
and export.
Turnover and Sales
Our sales increased in 2010 to
around € 23 million.
This represents an increase of 11%
over the previous year.
It was sold around 9 million bottles
of wine.
The good results were managed by
our 54 employees on Lake Constance
and on-site at our customers.
