A mountain awaits
The Schauinsland, 1284 meters high, is
Freiburg’s very own mountain landmark. The
Schauinsland is easy to reach in a variety of
ways either on foot, by bike or in comfort by
bus or car. A circulating cable car, the longest
in Germany, will take you up to the top from the
Schauinsland’s north-west side facing Freiburg.
The maze of tunnels created in the Schauinsland
over the course of 800 years in the search for
silver, lead and zinc is approx. 100 km long and
spread over 22 levels, is the largest example of
its kind in both the Black Forest and the Vogues
Mountains. Here you can encounter and view an
entire spectrum of ore mining.
Steinwasen Park combines an experience of
nature with thrilling rides and attractions.The
park is home to over 30 different species of wildlife,
including marmots and lynx, living in a spectacular
natural landscape for fascinated visitors
of any age to discover and observe.
Starting from the cable-car station at the top
of the Schauinsland mountain, you can try out
a unique alternative in a small group with an
expert guide, by rolling down Europe’s longest
downhill scooter track (8 km, 750 m elevation)
on a high-tech scooter. The descent begins at the
upper cable car station where you can borrow
the scooter and a set of protective equipment.
