Boardmember of kapers
Dear Readers,
GAV 2006 All’s well that ends well?
They still happen, the so called wonders, provided
we can call the positive outcome of the CWA06
as such. During the long negotiation period I had
often doubted if I should ever be able to write
about a result of the CWA at all. It is certainly not
one of those wonders about which we can frolic.
It is rather of the kind where you are never sure
whether it may please you or whether it is going
to stay as a lump in your throat. Not only has it
cost a lot more energy than we had hoped for but
neither did we get it for nothing like e.g. the tears
of a Madonna statue. Although, it is probably
our time, that we cannot even watch the tears of
the Madonna statue for free. Even faith is divided
into business-units nowadays that have to return a
success driven cash out-put.
Are we allowed to be pleased now, anyway?
Only time will be able to finally answer this
question. If our substantial contribution helps
the company getting well and allows it to grow,
at the same time letting us participate then I am
prepared to make sacrifices symmetrically. We
can only hope that our compromise is not again
wasted somewhere useless. At least, after yearlong
cutbacks, it is good to see a silver lining
and Swiss can report about an expansion of the
network, modest as it is.
An incident on board is nothing unusual but it is
not common either. When we recently learned
about an emergency- or safety landing in Halifax
kabine 1/2006
through the media, it woke up uncomfortable
feelings in many of us. It was a fluke from the
journalistic view point that on this flight of all
flights two kapers committee members and an
ATC simulator pilot (relative of the commander)
were on board. Ueli Schärer has the story on
page 5.
The new year also brings staff changes at kapers.
From the board Joerg Drittenbass says good-bye
and takes the big step into his well deserved
retirement, Yvonne Kastner enjoys her mother
leave and we are going to introduce Ulrich
Schärer to you. Also, kapers has decided to
create an Economic Committee that is supposed
to support the board in managerial science
and entrepreneurial issues. We would like to
welcome Hannes Renk, Francesco Bianco and
Cyrill Habegger. Nathalie Aeschbacher is going
to assist me in writing articles from issue 2/2006.
Learn more about the new committee members
and their tasks in the next issue.
