A suoperior englisch cane with a large ivory handle on its
naturally brown striped makassar ebony shaft with plain and
nailed silver collar and metal ferrule. The 4 1/4 in. high and,
also, 4 1/4 in. wide L-shaped handle is delicately carved to
depict a reclining woman with long braided hair, exhibiting
her beautiful body, Partly covered with a short and sheer
skirt. She has both arms folded behind her head and looks
sideward with a dreamy and sensual expression on the face,
which makes it impossible to watch her without being engaged
in a visual dialog. This cane, with decent, erotic overtones,
is in an excellent state of conservation; the attractive
and luminous surface of its handle adds to the graceful Venus
theultimate touch. Because this motif is also known in a different
version with the leg of the reclining woman attached
in a chain, it is often referred to as the Reclining Slave.
