It has been introduced into most religions, and almost always coincides with the moon calendar and changes of the season to help the body transition into a fasting state. There are a few types of different fasts (i.e. complete fast, juice fast, etc.), but in general, all these fasts help to detoxify the body. Fasting acts as a huge cleanser because the body does not have to work hard to digest food, rather it can concentrate all of its resources on expelling toxins that are stored in the tissues. This is why fasting is great for preserving your health, and can even help speed up the healing process for many ailments and conditions. If we look in Mother Nature, no animal will eat when they are sick, while humans will force themselves when they are ill. However, that being said, you must be very careful before starting a fasting regimen. You must know what you are doing and be aware of what to expect in terms of symptoms you can have during fasting. Many people can experience nausea, vomiting, weakness, and dizziness. Fasting can be very beneficial to your health, but if you don’t obey certain rules, it can do more harm than good. For example, if you plan to do a prolonged fast, there are very strict laws that you must adhere to (i.e. which foods need to be eliminated gradually before the fast; your regimen during the fast; which foods to slowly introduce back into your diet after fasting). This is why fasting should be done under the supervision of a health practitioner that is knowledgeable in this area and can guide you through the process. After you have done a few fasts under their guidance, you should be able to safely do it on your own! l 1
