HOTEL REVIEW DINING Nama, the all-day dining restaurant is where you can indulge in breakfast packed with everything from Arabic spreads and salads, to eggs benedict, roast meat, Indian specialties and dim sum. A wide selection of fresh bakes, breads and cheese are on offer too. Don’t let the extensive honey spread go untested – ideal for a yoghurt pot with granola and seeds (from the nuts and superfood station). For dinner, the concept is similar, with a station for Indian, Arabic, Asian and European-style fare. Grab a plate and fill it up with fresh salad, sushi, fried savoury pastries from the Arabic counter, or spring rolls and nuggets at the kids station. For mains, dig into a curry with biryani, or tuck into roast meat, pasta, noodles, Asian sweet and sour chicken, risotto, and plenty more. The fondue fountain is worth a visit for something sweet, alongside the hot dessert station for Umm Ali (milky bread pudding) and cake assortment featuring red velvet, chocolate and fruity creations. You are probably going to spend lunchtime either soaking up the sun by the beach or dipping in the infinity pool. When the hunger pangs kick in, order a beverage and nosh from Drift (the pool bar and restaurant). The menu is concise with options including a juicy Wagyu beef burger and lobster club sandwich. We highly recommend consuming this with a side of truffle fries. The highlight of our stay was access to the Club Lounge (an additional charge but well worth it). The lounge comprises a private lap pool with cabanas nearby, outdoor terrace for afternoon tea or evening drinks, snooker table and TV room, secluded playroom/library for kids – just outside the main lounge – and an incredible concept menu showcasing one ingredient in hot and cold canapés We tried a lavender menu featuring a mousse, macaron, scones, and mini sandwiches, and a divine salted chocolate merged with beef, shrimp, and goat cheese. The bar service comes to a halt at around 8pm. Head off to Nama for dinner, and Horizon Bar right after for a tipple or two. The bartender strikes up a friendly chat offering amazingly innovative cocktails with some of the finest ingredients available. Ivan, the friendly gentleman, even has aged concoctions in barrels that he offers as a taster – if you’re intrigued. …AND RELAX O Spa by L’Occitane is an expansive double-storey space home to the gym, a Jacuzzi and steam room in the changing rooms, and treatment rooms. I opted for a full-body treatment that began with a foot soak, followed by a 60-minute therapeutic, aromatic lavender oil massage. Medium to hard pressure was used to knead skin and sore muscles that had plenty of tension built up thanks to looming deadlines. The masseuse focuses on each area for about 20 minutes or so, relieving you off pain instantly. Once done, I slipped back into my robe and sipped on a refreshing hot ginger, lemon and honey tea to really immerse myself in that Zen feeling.
