The venue: OLA SPA, LAPITA HOTEL & RESORT
The service: Escape for 2
The verdict: This Polynesian-themed hotel is a sight for
sore eyes. The architecture with slanted roofs and wooden
cabin-style buildings, ambient lighting, and expansive
pathways with swimming pools and flowers dotted around,
make this hotel a serene sanctuary just over 20 minutes away
from the new Dubai area.
Ola Spa, nestled in a standalone building, offers a refreshing
aroma the minute you enter. Men and women are taken
either sides of the spa for the changing room facilities, where
you will also find a sauna, Jacuzzi, steam bath and tropical rain
showers. Hawaiian, Tahitian and Samoan treatments are
offered, bringing on a novel addition to the city’s spa scene.
Since my partner and I were in desperate need of a
massage after months of strenuous activity, we opted for
the Escape for two, comprising the signature Lomi Lomi
massage – used by Hawaiian healers as a holistic tool – at a
Couple’s Suite. It begins with an exfoliating foot rub and
rinse with coconut milk to warm the feet, while we chose
our oils. I picked lavender, to calm the senses, while my
partner chose a moisturising coconut oil. Gentle, deep
movements are applied to muscles to ease tension and
remove knots. The therapist’s arms twist from the wrist to
the elbow in long strokes, mimicking rolling waves on the
shore, while truly massaging the body and stimulating
circulation. Half way through I heard subtle snoring –
courtesy of my partner – who was unquestionably enjoying
every bit of the calming treatment. To put you in a
complete state of lull, soothing tunes are played in the
background. A look in the mirror after the treatment, and I
could feel my skin plumped and glowing with energy
restored. And so, we headed to the relaxation lounges for
tea and dried fruit, and the sauna and cool mist shower
soon after, to open pores and rid toxins. I must add, my
therapist was quite friendly, offering tips on how to beat
stress at home with Epsom salt baths, a hot towel on the
neck and shoulder area, and weekly sauna visits.
