2011 <strong>FSMTA</strong> <strong>State</strong> Concerto Competition Report<br />

The 2011 <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>State</strong> Concerto Competition took place at the FSU College of<br />
Music in Tallahassee on May 14. Thirty students from eight districts participated<br />
including 17 pianists, 11 string performers and 2 vocalists.<br />

Enoch Wong, who will be age 16 in June 2011, was born in Tampa, <strong>Florida</strong>. Currently residing in<br />
Orlando, Enoch is a sophomore in the AP program at Timber Creek High School. Enoch speaks English,<br />
Cantonese and Mandarin. When Enoch was five years old, he began private piano lessons under Zalina<br />
Guverich, and at age eight, Oleg Barsov became Enoch’s teacher.<br />
Enoch has won numerous awards starting when he was seven and has had many concert opportunities<br />
the past two years. In 2009 he received 1st place in the Central <strong>Florida</strong> MTA’s Annual Student Competition, won the Irene Muir<br />
Honorable Mentions in Concerto, Hymns and Duet in the FFMC, and placed 1st in the <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>State</strong> Competition for MTNA and 1st for<br />
Piano and 3rd in the overall final round that included vocals, strings, percussion and piano in the Rollins College Bach Festival Society.<br />
In 2010, Enoch placed 1st in MTNA’s Southeast Regional Competition, placed 3rd in MTNA’s National Competition, performed a<br />
Concerto at the FFMC Award Ceremony, placed 1st in Piano Concerto Junior III-B, received Honorable Mentions for Piano Solo and<br />
Piano Hymns, performed in the MTNA Competition Winners Recital, and placed 1st in Piano and 2nd overall in the final round that<br />
included vocals, strings, percussion and piano in the Rollins College Bach Festival Society.<br />
Enoch is faithfully working to expand his musical talent. He not only plays classical music, but he also plays worship music at Living<br />
Stone Community Church. As a devoted Christian, he seeks excellence in Christ. He is passionate about music and enjoys swimming,<br />
spending time with friends and family, and basketball. Enoch aspires to major in either Law or Medicine and will minor in Music.
