Time for some fun & games on the ascent line
However, to be honest it was not at
all dives we were happy to have side
mounted tanks. At Brothers Island in the
middle of the Red Sea a lot of the dives
were made using Zodiacs to get to the end
of the reef. In the water the side mounted
tanks gave no problems, instead they
made it possible to stay a bit longer at
the deeper plateaus looking for the many
species of sharks that roam around the
isolated reef, but going in the Zodiac with
two twelve litre tanks hanging on the side
is not the easiest when there are some
waves coming.
After the dive when the zodiac picked us
up the difference in getting in was not so
big. The other divers took their BCDs off
and sent them up to the crew in the zodiac.
We kept ours on but unhooked the tanks
and gave them to the crew.
When we came back to blue Horizon the
crew placed the other divers BCDs in
their places and refilled them. We kept
our BCD in our boxes and had only the
two tanks up for refilling.

When it was time for the next dive we just
put on our BCDs and, at the dive deck, we
attached the tanks. The blue Horizon has
a really huge dive deck, which made the
pre-dive preparations a lot easier.
All in all we had a great week! The
extra possibility and freedom that the
side mount tanks gave us makes the
choice of tanks for the next liveaboard
an easy one.
We will be back for another week and
side mounted tanks will, of course,
be the configuration next time as
well.
