EDITORIAL
Welcome to the seventh issue of THE
EQUALIZER.
We’re busy celebrating our first birthday
here at EQUALIZER towers and we
would like to thank everyone that
has contributed to the magazine and
supported us in our first year.
We have some great issues planned for
the next twelve months so don’t forget to
check each issue and see what’s going
on in the Red Sea.
This issue takes a look at the dive sites
of Fury Shoals, diving with side mounted
cylinders and the topic of dehydration is
investigated. You’re likely to learn some
things that you didn’t know!
We also welcome a new photo contest
sponsor, Colona Divers, who are offering
the fantastic opportunity to win a minisafari

When did you start diving?
MB: 1984
Why did you start diving?
MB: Because windsurfing was just too
expensive at the time
How long have you been in the Red
Sea?
MB: Since the start of 1997, but I had
visited on holiday before that
Which is your favourite dive site in
the Red Sea, and why?
MB: Small Giftun drift in Hurghada.
There are beautiful fan corals and you
can glide past them all with the current
What was your most memorable
dive?
MB: A dive in January 1995 at Watamu
in Kenya where we had 20 whale
sharks and a large group of mantas
as well. We had been sat at the dive
centre with binoculars and we saw
their fins break the surface. We got
kitted up and had the dive of our lives
If you could be a marine species,
what would you be?
MB: Something big. I would like to
be a shark, hammerheads are one
of my favourites so I’d like to be a
hammerhead. The trouble is they are
being caught for their fins - something
we have to stop before it’s too late

What do you think is the biggest threat
to the Red Sea?
MB: Illegal fishing that has increased
dramatically in recent years
Who is your dream Buddy, and why?
MB: If I’m honest it would be myself. I
love to be alone underwater but if I have
to have a buddy then I would only ever
choose my fiancée Cat
What’s on your bedside table?
MB: I don’t have one but if I did it would
have my telephone on it.
What are you doing in 10 years?
MB: If I’m still alive, hopefully living as
a kept man from the money that Cat’s
business has made
