Honeywell Fluorine Products in India
Overview
Honeywell’s Fluorine Products
business is a leader in the
manufacture and supply of zero
non-ozone-depleting refrigerants
used by top air-conditioning and
refrigeration makers worldwide, as
well as blowing agents for energyefficient
foam insulation, and
hydrofluoric acid and precursors for
nuclear fuel. The business pioneered
the development of fluorocarbons
used in environmentally safer
refrigerants, foam blowing agents
and aerosols and solvents. It is a
leading producer of fluorocarbons
used to replace ozone-depleting CFCs
(chlorofluorocarbons) and HCFCs
(hydrochlorofluorocarbons).
Continuing its commitment towards
more secure, safer and more
energy-efficient homes and offices,
Honeywell works towards helping
the world responding to its energy
and environmental challenges.
In 2008, Honeywell introduced
the first product in its Low Global
Warming Potential (LGWP) portfolio,
based on hydrofluoroolefin (HFO)
technology. Today, Honeywell is a
pioneer in developing LGWP blowing
agent technology for polyurethane
and extruded polystyrene foams
insulation; advanced energy-efficient
refrigerants for refrigeration and air
conditioning, and organic rankine
cycle waste heat recovery systems;
and propellants for aerosol and
solvent applications.
India, as a part of Article V countries of
Montreal Protocol on Substances That
Deplete the Ozone Layer, is working
16 p o l y u r e t h a n e s t o d a y
toward phasing out HCFC 141b and
R22 from 2013 onwards. The transition
from HCFCs to environmentally
friendlier alternatives is of particular
significance since the country aims to
not only phase out ozone depleting
HCFC’s but also significantly improve
the energy efficiency of domestic
appliances over the next 2-3 years.
Meeting the Montreal Protocol
regulations for HCFC phase-out,
Enovate 245fa has No Ozone
Depletion Potential and provides
efficiencies similar to HCFC 141b
blowing agent. It is non-toxic, noncorrosive,
non-flammable and offers
8 to 10 percent more energy efficiency
than any hydrocarbon blowing agent.
Converting to Enovate 245fa incurs
no significant cost or changes to the
existing HCFC 141b or hydrocarbonbased
foaming equipment setup.
Honeywell has also developed and
recently launched Solstice Liquid
Blowing Agent (LBA). Solstice LBA
excels in the four dimensions that
are most critical to blowing agent
customers: Performance, Cost-
Effectiveness, Environment and
Safety. This fourth generation blowing
agent has been developed to have a
significantly lower global-warming
potential (GWP) while improving
energy efficiency performance.
The energy efficiency benefits of
Honeywell Solstice Liquid Blowing
Agent, combined with its low global
warming potential and safety in
use, make it the right choice as a
replacement for HCFC-141b, as well
as hydrocarbons, for manufacture
of polyurethane foam.
Honeywell Specialty Materials is a
leading international supplier and
licensor of process technology,
catalysts, adsorbents, process plants,
and consulting services to the
petroleum refining, petrochemical,
and gas processing industries. It is
a global leader in developing and
manufacturing high-purity, highquality
performance chemicals and
materials, pharmaceutical packaging,
and construction materials. Our
technologies reduce emissions, stop
bullets, enable the production of
green diesel and green gasoline,
increase oil refinery capacity,
speed drug discovery, and protect
medicines.
Honeywell is a Fortune 100 company
that invents and manufactures
technologies to address tough
challenges linked to global macro
trends such as safety, security, and
energy. With approximately 122,000
employees worldwide, including
more than 19,000 engineers and
scientists, Honeywell stands for
an unrelenting focus on quality,
delivery, value, and technology in
everything we make and do.
