In 1994 the band produced its second recording Australia Selection. The recording included a number of composed songs by Neil McCann and the ever popular And When They Dance. In 1998 a compilation recording of After the Tradition and Australian Selection was released in North America by Musica Pangaea called Australian Tradition. The year 1998 saw a major change for the band. Two of its long standing members John Harpley and Neil McCann decided to move on. The new youthful additions to the band were Jason and Chloe Roweth from Bathurst and the return of fiddler Jane Brownlee, Tania’s sister, from Sydney. A new recording was released in 1999 – Live at the Local, recorded at the Jamberoo Pub. Another highlight during that period was the presentation of a series of songs and tunes around Australian migration with BHP Youth Orchestra and SBS Youth Choir. The band also produced a double CD recording of music for Bush Dancing called Australian Traditional Dance Tunes. In 2006 the band changed once more with Jason and Chloe leaving for the 'bush' and Jane for London! The current band is Graeme and Reg Murray, David, Tania and Samuel De Santi, Miffy Ryan, Johnny Spillane and Tim Kendell. In 2009 the new version of the band released the recording Australia Street - a mix of collected tunes and songs and new; songs from songwriters such as Michael O'Rourke, John Broomhall and John Dengate exemplifying the aim to keep the music fresh! The band, in various forms, has played in New Zealand, Denmark (4 occasions), Finland, Scotland, China (3 occasions), Sweden and Germany. During this whole period the Wongawilli Colonial Dancers have continued to perform to the live music of the band providing a unique performance. The routines are sequences of dances based on the various mainstream social dances from the bush and towns since the 1800s and dances introduced in the Folk Revival of the 1950s. So what has been the formula for the longevity of the Club, band and dancers? Maybe it's the fact that we've had fun and enjoyed the social aspect of music and dancing while contributing to our heritage. You need to be a financial member of the Illawarra Folk Club 2. There is a minimum commission of $3. Part of this pays for the credit card charge and the transaction cost and admin - website. 3. You are forwarded the online orders you arrange for the postage and packaging as soon as possible. Hopefully within 1 day of receiving the order.. 4. You need to advise Dsvid De Santi (info@ illawarrafolklcub.org.au) that this has been done with an email confirmation. This should also be emailed to the buyer to let them know it's coming. The old rapscallion has just had a hip replacement and by all reports is making good progress. When I rang him up in hospital he was down spending a couple of hours in the gym which given his predilection for the sedentary life was a bit scary. Anyway I think hospital might be mellowing him as he seems to be a bit kinder to his pet hate (banking CEOs) in this verse. Spare a thought for those struggling CEOs FEES AND INTEREST RATES I think that I shall never see, a poem as lovely as a fee, And we should all give grateful thanks, to the keepers of the fee, ‘THE BANKS’. Without those fees, there’d be no profit. Cynics are inclined to scoff at Bankers who increase their rates, but they’re non-believers, fools, ingrates. The machinery that runs our Nation, starts with banking innovation, And if you wonder how I know, a retired banker told me so. Fees are the bankers’ bricks and mortar, take no prisoners, give no quarter. Hard decisions must be made, so CEOs are properly paid. From CBA to ANZ, I have often heard it said, “To make our businesses secure, fees must go up more and more. Our shareholders must be content, and they have given their consent To us hardworking CEOs, to do what we must, so profit grows.” Now, there are those expressing doubt, who find it hard to work it out, And believe, in some old fashioned way, that customers should have some say. Poppycock, and balderdash. You speak as if your bit of cash Entitles you. Do you suppose, you know as much as CEOs? They’ve worked out, that the banking fee, is good for our economy. That shareholders (the ones to please) like seeing jobs go overseas. Like seeing interest rates increase. This type of whingeing has to cease. Customers must realise, their place -- a tiny, weeny, size. Don’t say a critic could be right, a CEO might die of fright. And that would never, never do, such criticism, I eschew. Customers who feel the pain, should understand, it’s for the gain. Someone has to pay the piper. Your CEO is not a viper. And now we come to interest rates. The borrowers await their fates. Reserve Bank cut by fifty points. Will the big banks disappoint?
