will be used to comfort accident victims on the scene of emergencies. “Our group of riders
enjoyed helping with this project,” Williams said of the donation. “Accident victims young and old
Closure of U.S. 14/Wisconsin
Highway 11 begins Monday
Road will be closed between County O and State Highway 89
JANESVILLE — As reconstruction activities
wrap up on East Racine Street between Wright
Road and U.S. Highway 14, Wisconsin
Department of Transportation officials are
preparing for an even bigger project.
U.S. 14/Wisconsin Highway 11 between
County Highway O in Janesville and State
Highway 89 in Walworth County will be closed
Monday through early October.
During the project, workers will mill more
than 10 miles of the existing road and lay new
pavement. The road will be closed to traffic
throughout the project; a marked detour will
take drivers south on Interstate 39/90 to I-43
near Beloit.
Officials expect locals to find other alternate
routes.
“It probably will increase the traffic on (highways)
A and MM,” said project leader Lance
Wagner of R.H. Batterman & Co. in Beloit.
The increase could cause additional wear
and tear on the county roads, he said, although
he anticipates that heavy truck traffic will stay
on the interstate.
For the owners and employees of HHFFR-
RRGGH Inn, the end of construction on East
Racine Street is a welcome sight.
“They were doing so much work right in the
intersection that people were just pretty confused
about how to get here,” said Darlene
Cunningham, the restaurant’s general manager.
The business closed its doors for remodeling
during most of July.
“(The construction) helped us along in that
CONSTRUCTION ONSTRUCTION AHEAD
Among the construction projects still scheduled for
the area this summer:
■ North Wright Road, between East Milwaukee Street
and Midvale Drive: Resurfacing is expected to be complete
by Aug. 15. One lane will remain open in each direction
throughout the project.
■ Austin Road: Resurfacing is expected to last until
Wednesday. The road is closed from Mineral Point Road to
County Highway A.
decision,” Cunningham said. “We had been
thinking about remodeling,
and since the
opportunity presented
itself, we decided to
act on it.”
When it reopens
Monday, HHFFR-
RRGGH will be a nonsmoking
facility. A new
outdoor patio will
accommodate smokers.
Though much of the
restaurant’s business
comes from interstate
travelers, Cunningham
isn’t sure what effect
the Highway 11/14
project will have.
“I really haven’t
thought about that,”
she said. “We’re just
trying to get through
this.”
