The ultra-stylish Passat
CC, which is set to arrive
this October, features an
abundance of that quality
and should advance Volkswagen’s
reputation as a
builder of artistic, as well as
practical products.
The only odd part about
the CC is its name. The initials
stand for Comfort
Coupé, but since four doors
are plainly visible, shouldn’t
it more accurately be called
the Comfort Sedan? That
slight bit of poetic licence is
perhaps understandable
since the car’s low, sweeping
roofline and flush-fitting
rear glass give it a certain
coupelike shape. Whatever,
you call it, the CC is the
easiest on the eyes of any
automobile currently wearing
a VW badge.
It comes as no surprise,
then, that the CC shares
none of its body panels with
its Passat sedan or wagon
siblings. Although all mod-

harness the same platform
and basic suspension,
the CC is actually slightly
longer and wider than the
others while sitting two
inches lower to the ground.
The front and rear wheels
have been placed slightly
farther apart for a more aggressive
stance and sportier
handling.
Other significant differences
are displayed inside.
The interior is nothing short of spectacular in its
design and detail. If you’re looking to trade in
your Jetta for something ritzy while remaining
loyal to VW, then the CC is your machine.
There, Volkswagen has revised
the control panel and
front seats and completely
reshaped the back seat so
that there’s room for only
two occupants. The space in
the middle features a handy
air-conditioned storage bin
plus room for a generously
sized fold-down arm rest.
This interior redesign will
obviously cause some buyers
to skip the CC in favor
of something more practical,
just as they likely would
if this Passat was a real
coupe. As well, the car’s
coupe-like roofline means
that extra-tall passengers
will likely pass on being offered
a rear-seat spot, especially
for long trips.
Recognizing this, VW has
scooped out the seat cushion
in an attempt to maximize
headroom.
