i 3:2 Fees and Registration<br />

Preregistration, Registration, Fees<br />

Preregistration<br />

Once admitted to the <strong>University</strong>, students are advised<br />

to preregister for their courses well in advance <strong>of</strong> the<br />

beginninlg <strong>of</strong> lectures. Preregistration is the process <strong>of</strong><br />

choosing courses, having them approved by the<br />

appropriate advisor and recorded with the Registrar’s<br />

Office before the start <strong>of</strong> cla$ses. First year students<br />

should preregister for courses and programs in<br />

consultation with an advisor in their faculty’s<br />

undergraduate <strong>of</strong>fice; advanced year students should<br />

select their courses on the advice <strong>of</strong> the<br />

undergraduate advisor for their major department.<br />

Students registering through Renison College or St.<br />

Jerome’s College should select their courses with the<br />

appropriate advisor at their college. All students must<br />

preregister for courses as follows:<br />

A) NEWI_Y ADMITTED STUDENTS:<br />

As soon as possible after academic admission.<br />

Information regarding preregistration is forwarded<br />

when the student is admitted.<br />

B) RETURNING STUDENTS:<br />

1. Co-operative Programs -<br />

During the preceding on-campus term.<br />

2. Regular Programs -<br />

During March <strong>of</strong> the preceding academic year.<br />

The above action will produce the “Student Schedule<br />

and Fee Statement” which will be mailed to the student<br />

prior to the start <strong>of</strong> classes.”<br />

Students are encouraged, where possible, to<br />

preregister and pay their fees by mail by sending a<br />

cheque 01’ money order payable to the institution <strong>of</strong><br />

their intended registration (<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Waterloo</strong>,<br />

Renison College, or St. Jerome’s College). For those<br />

students who do not register by mail, a registration<br />

period is held on campus immediately prior to the<br />

beginning <strong>of</strong> lectures each term.<br />

Registration<br />

Registration is completed when fees have been paid<br />

or arranged, the “Fee Statement” has been receipted<br />

by Financ,ial Services, and any course changes have<br />

been approved and successfully processed.<br />

The <strong>University</strong> reserves the right to require a<br />

student to withdraw from a course or courses for<br />

academic or other reasons.<br />

Assessment<br />

Fees are assessed as follows: (Foreign Students - see<br />

note 5 on page 3:7).<br />

A) CO-OPERATIVE PROGRAMS:<br />

1. All Terms<br />

Engineering and Architecture<br />

Students are assessed on a per term basis<br />

for the Total Tuition and Incidental Fees<br />

shown on the Schedule <strong>of</strong> Fees. Students<br />

taking one or two term courses only in a<br />

term are assessed by course at the Unit<br />

Course Fee shown.<br />

Other Co-operative Programs<br />

Students are assessed by course at the Unit<br />

Course Fee shown to a maximum <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Basic Fee. Students taking more than two<br />

term-courses in a term are also assessed<br />

Co-operative and Incidental Fees.<br />

B) REGULAR PROGRAMS:<br />

1. All Terms<br />

a) Architecture Year 1, Independent Studies<br />

and Optometry<br />

Students are assessed on a per term basis<br />

for the Total Tuition and Incidental Fees<br />

shown on the Schedule <strong>of</strong> Fees.<br />

b) Other Regular Programs<br />

Students are assessed by course at the Unit<br />

Course Fee shown to a maximum <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Basic Fee. Students taking more than two<br />

term courses are also assessed Incidental<br />

Fees.<br />

2. Summer Session (July-August)<br />

Students are assessed by course at the Unit<br />

Course Fee shown.<br />

Payment<br />

A) TIMING AND AMOUNTS DUE<br />

All fees are due and payable by the end <strong>of</strong> the<br />

registration period. See pages 8-l 1 for appropriate<br />

dates. Students must pay or arrange fees by these<br />

dates, whether or not a final class schedule has<br />

been received.<br />

For Tot4 Tuition Fees and Unit Course Fee see<br />

Schedule <strong>of</strong> Fees.<br />

8) METHODS<br />

By Mail<br />

The <strong>University</strong> encourages students to register<br />

by mail. Detailed instructions outlining the<br />

payment procedure will be included with the<br />

Fee Statement.<br />

In Person<br />

For students who cannot register by mail, a<br />

registration period is held on campus at the<br />

beginning <strong>of</strong> each term. See pages 8-11 for<br />

dates.
