Ermenegildo Zegna Launches First Global Store
at Milan’s Via Montenapoleone
Milan, 25 th October 2007 - Ermenegildo Zegna opens its first Global Store at Via
Montenapoleone 27/E. The new House of Zegna combines the best of traditional and
contemporary design. The Zegna spirit and brand story is manifested through the use of
noble materials, natural colours, tactile sensations and technical innovations.
The Milan Global Store concept is the first of 3, followed by New York’s Fifth Avenue in
Spring 2008 and then by Shinjuku, Tokyo in the Fall of 2008. The store opening follows a
fruitful partnership between the world-renowned architect Peter Marino and Zegna, with
the architectural firm echoing the brand’s use of quality materials, integrity and modern
style in the store.
Ermenegildo Zegna CEO of the Group stated “This is an exciting time for the Zegna
Group and we are proud to be launching our new global store concept in our Italian
homeland, this further reinforces our position as a leader and innovator in global luxury.
Peter Marino has successfully designed the store to echo our brand values & history, with
all the styles and personalities of our brands evoked in the ideal House of Zegna.”
A key inspiration for the store design has been the fabrics created at Zegna’s eponymous
wool mill in Trivero, Italy for nearly one hundred years. The tactile adventure in-store
begins with metallic strands at the windows and on the staircase, the texture resembles
the textile composition of warp crossing weft, transforming raw material into fibres.
Stucco decorates the passages between the floors and was inspired by Zegna’s CashCo
fabric, a corduroy blend of cashmere and cotton. Traversing from floor to wall, the golden
yellow radica marble stripe refers to the selvage on Zegna fabrics, the signature line at
the edge of bolts of fabric to guarantee authenticity.
The original façade of a Palazzo dates back to 1800 and positioned in Milan’s most
prestigious shopping district, the House of Zegna occupies 700 square meters and is laid
out over 4 floors. One of the most eye-catching features is the floor to ceiling height
central hall. Filled with constantly changing colours, this ever-changing environment
depicts the four seasons as in Oasi Zegna to remind customers of the beauty of nature
and Zegna’s environmental commitment. This nod to nature is a core theme of the store,
from the masculine yet natural colour palette to the sourcing of sustainable materials,
notably the mahogany wood used in the Sartorial area.
Entering from the street on via Montenapoleone, the ground floor materials (marble,
stone, selected wood and modern metals) create a welcoming and sophisticated
atmosphere embellished by an artwork by Francesco Jodice. The ground floor is mainly
devoted to leather and textile accessories, sunglasses and perfume. The international
and cosmopolitan Z Zegna brand has an area of urban designer style.
The mezzanine houses the new Underwear and Loungewear and Zegna Sport collection.
This multi purpose collection is designed for the Zegna man’s active lifestyle. Wooden
stairs lead up to the first floor which houses the full range of Zegna garments for work,
travel and leisure. Private Lounges are where wardrobe consultants will advise clients on
the innumerable variety of textiles, designs and seasonal combinations available at
Zegna.
At the top floor the Made to Measure service offers tailor-made garments and leather
items to complete a total look of personalization. The Couture Room is decorated with
Zebrano wood and bamboo stucco, epitomising Italian tailoring and exquisite details at
its finest at The House of Zegna. Above the fireplace, an artwork by Mimmo Jodice of
Oasi Zegna. Adjacent is an area dedicated to Formal Wear Collection showcases longstanding
links to the World of Classical Music, portraying world renowned Conductors
wearing Zegna’s ‘Concert Suits’.
Peter Marino stated, “Ermenegildo Zegna is a historic brand, known for the unrivalled
quality of its woven textiles. I used this imagery throughout the design. The action of the
weaving machines heavily influenced me in intertwining stainless steel threads
throughout. The materials and colours, sky blue and alpine green stones, come from
Zegna's strong commitment to nature evident in their OASIS in Northern Italy. The entire
compartmentalization of products, each with their own shade of wood, makes up one
whole House of Zegna, a brand that is a rising star in today's world of luxury."
