Ermenegildo Zegna Launches its New Fifth Avenue Flagship Boutique
Designed by Peter Marino
New York, 30 th January 2008 - Ermenegildo Zegna opens its first USA flagship boutique, at 663 Fifth Avenue,
with a new global concept designed by Peter Marino, the modern architect of luxury. The new House of
Zegna combines the best of traditional and contemporary design. The Zegna spirit and brand story is
reinforced through the use of noble materials, natural colours, tactile sensations and technical innovations,
derived from Zegna’s fabric heritage.
The New York Global Store concept is the second of 3, preceding the Milan, Montenapoleone opening in
October 2007 and followed by Shinjuku, Tokyo in early 2009. The store opening is the result of a fruitful
partnership between the world-renowned architect Peter Marino and Ermenegildo Zegna, with the
architectural firm echoing the brand’s use of quality materials, integrity and modern style in the store.
Gildo Zegna, CEO of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group states “This is an exciting time for the Zegna Group and
we are proud to be launching a global store concept in the USA our second home, as this further reinforces
our position as a leader and innovator in global luxury. Peter Marino has successfully designed the store to
echo our brand values & history, with all the styles and personalities of our brands evoked in the ideal House
of Zegna.”
A key inspiration for the store design has been the fabrics created at Zegna’s eponymous wool mill in
Trivero, Italy for nearly one hundred years. The tactile adventure in-store begins with metallic strands in the
windows and on the staircase; the texture created resembles the textile composition of warp crossing weft,
transforming raw fibres into fabrics. Stucco decorates the passages between the floors inspired by Zegna’s
CashCo fabric, a corduroy blend of cashmere and cotton. Traversing from floor to wall, the golden yellow
radica marble stripe refers to the selvage on Zegna fabrics, the signature line at the edge of bolts of fabric to
guarantee authenticity.
The new Zegna flagship store occupies 9,200 square feet of retail space, laid out over 3 floors, in New York’s
most prestigious shopping avenue. One of the most eye-catching features is the monumental store facade,
made of 900 square feet of continuous glass, with metal struts creating a visual representation of woven
Zegna fabrics.
Entering from the street on Fifth Avenue, the ground floor materials, of marble, stone, selected woods and
modern metals, create a welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere. The ground floor is devoted to shirts,
leather goods, textile accessories, underwear / loungewear, sunglasses and perfume. The Z Zegna brand has
an area of urban designer style, for the metropolitan man.
The floor to ceiling height central stairwell is filled with constantly changing colours. This ever changing
environmental mural depicts the four seasons as in Oasi Zegna, to remind customers of the beauty of nature
and Zegna’s environmental commitment. This nod to nature is a core theme of the store, from the masculine
yet natural color palette to the sourcing of sustainable stones and woods.
The second floor houses the Upper Casual collection, the chic expression of Ermenegildo Zegna
leisurewear; and the Zegna Sport collection, designed with technology and innovation for an active man’s
lifestyle. Wooden stairs lead up to the top floor, which houses the full range of Zegna clothing for work, travel
and pleasure. Private Lounges are where wardrobe consultants will advise clients on the innumerable variety
of textiles, designs and seasonal combinations available at Zegna.

Furthermore on the top floor, the Made to Measure service offers tailor-made garments and leather items to
complete a total look of personalization. The Couture Room is decorated with Zebrano wood and bamboo
stucco, epitomising Italian tailoring and exquisite details at its finest at The House of Zegna. Photographic
work from the German artist Frank Thiel, depicting an architectural weave, completes the archetypal
. gentleman’s club. Adjacent is an area dedicated to the Formal Wear Collections, showcasing long-standing
links to the World of Classical Music and portraying world renowned Conductors wearing Zegna’s ‘Concert
Suits’.
Peter Marino stated, “Ermenegildo Zegna is a historic brand, known for the unrivalled quality of its woven
textiles. I used this imagery throughout the design. The action of the weaving machines heavily influenced
me in intertwining stainless steel threads throughout. The materials and colours, sky blue and alpine green
stones, come from Zegna's strong commitment to nature evident in their OASI in Northern Italy. The entire
compartmentalization of products, each with their own shade of wood, makes up one whole House of Zegna,
a brand that is a rising star in today's world of luxury."
