The Farnum Family From Galena, Missouri
Tours The Rio Grande Valley Of South Texas…
We took the whole family,
Norm & Trish, and our six children:
Daniel (19), Benjamin
(17), Hannah (14), Nathaniel
(12), Maggie (7) & Matthew (6)
on the longest music tour we’ve
ever been on! Leaving our Ozark
Mountain home in Galena on Jan
9th, we returned recently from a
five-week music tour through
the Rio Grande Valley of South
Texas. Our family performed 30
shows for 29 venues in 35 days
Aurora and won by Jim Fohn
who donated it back to the
department is being raffled.
Tickets are $1 each or six for
$5.
The department is composed
of all volunteers and needs
many more. There is a job for
anyone—from fundraisers to
emergency crews. Firefighter
and first responder positions
do require training, which is
provided by the department.
Volunteer applications will be
available at the supper.
Wear your green for St. Pat’s
Day and join your friends and
neighbors for this community
event.
– that’s a lot of music! At the 20
RV parks where we played, most
of our variety show performances
ran about 90-minutes each.
Additional venues included the
All Valley RV Show in Mercedes,
two performances for the
Winter Texan Expo at the McAllen
Convention Center, two
shows for the 2nd Annual American
Roots Music Festival at the
Chicken House Opry in Mission,
and two for the 8th Annual Rio
Grande Valley Music Festival in
Mercedes. A huge blessing was
to be able to trade five music
performances for lodging at the
La Copa Hotel in McAllen. We
did 90-minute shows for their
numerous hotel chain locations
in the valley, in McAllen (where
we stayed), Mercedes, Alamo,
and at the Best Western La Copa
Inn Beach Resort on South Padre
Island.
While in the valley, we were
able to attend a few performances
by some of the other family
bands circulating there. We enjoyed
shows by the Harpers, the
Link Family, Lindley Creek, the
Punches (all from Missouri), and
– new to us – the Alaska String
Band. Additionally, there were
a couple of days scheduled for
fellowship time with these and
some of the other of the many
family bands touring the valley.
In addition to a short visit to
the Alamo on the way down to
the RGV, we spent an afternoon at
