It was with great regret that
we were recently informed
of the sad passing of Dr
Lau Teng Chuan. Dr Lau
was a founding and long
standing former member
of our General Committee
until his retirement in 2010. His contributions to
the Club are highly valued. A tribute to Dr Lau
will be featured in Nautique soon. He will be sadly
missed by all and our heartfelt sympathies go to
all his family members.
It was wonderful to see so many turn up to
support the activities planned for you and the
family during the month-long school holidays in
June. Moving ahead, we’ve come to that time of
the year where our surrounding waters get pretty
busy with regatta activity.
For a start, the recent Mayhem Regatta (5 & 6
May) held true to its name as sailors fought tooth
and nail against nature’s elements. In the face
of extreme wind conditions, the sea salts pulled
through gallantly as can be seen on page 18.
Nothing can prepare us for the pageantry of Raffles
Marina’s signature sailing event, the Western Circuit
Sailing Regatta (4, 5 & 11 August). Together with
SMU, preparations are well underway to make it
another fun and memorable regatta. Be sure to
sign up early. Let’s not forget the annual Classic
Boat Regatta (9 August) that’s positioned in
between. Held on Singapore’s National Day, it’s a
perfect sailing party for everyone. Next up, join us
for a Cruise to Sibu Island on the beautiful east
coast of Malaysia (25-29 August), famous for her
marvelous marine parks. Details are on page 24.
Singapore’s favourite pastime (eating, of course!)
is alive and kicking here at the Club, thanks to the
culinary wizardry of our chefs. We congratulate
Chef Ah Liat, who has taken over from Chef Sim,
at the Bistro Kitchen! At the Marina Bistro, we
have on offer a succulent, tender Baby Back Ribs
Set Lunch in July and our National Day Buffet
Lunch in August will highlight many local dishes.
Over at the Captain’s Table, we have a Buy One
Get One Free steal of a deal for the months of
July and August.

Dear Members and Friends,
For a recap on our social/sporting calendar, pictures
paint a thousand words so take a look at this issue’s
photo features on the recent Boat Asia 2012 and
SSF Annual Awards and Charity Gala night. The
awards dinner saw some of the most promising
sailors, coaches and volunteers being honoured,
together with a charity auction that was held to
raise funds for the federation.
Closer to home is our very own 18th Anniversary
Celebration and BoatFest 2012 (1 & 2 September).
If you plan to be a proud boat owner, BoatFest
promises to pair you with a variety of new and
quality pre-owned boats of various models. It’s
going to be a real family weekend. Kids can play
games at the Clubhouse, the adventurous can
cool off with sea sports activities, and the hungry
can indulge in delectable munchies. Saturday
evening the party continues when we celebrate
Mid–Autumn Festival. Remember the fun we
had last year? This year promises to be just as
enjoyable with our 60’s theme complete with old
songs, mooncakes, dragon beard candy making,
fire performances and of course a kaleidoscope
of colourful lanterns. Sunday continues the fun
cumulating in a relaxed and casual BBQ around the
pool. Gather the generations and join us for any
part or hopefully all of our celebration weekend.
Tickets are on sale now.
Our next Kelong visit (17 to 19 Aug) is very special.
We travel to Malaysia for two nights and live aboard
a particularly productive Kelong along the South
China Sea. It promises to be a real adventure and
some great fishing. Do join us.
