stitute. The First Alumni Weekend was held on 1 –18<br />
May 198 at the Badia Fiesolana and finished with<br />
the first General Assembly convened by the Alumni<br />
to approve the Statutes of the Association and nominate<br />
the Executive Committee. The EUI committed<br />
itself to providing material and logistic support to<br />
the Association, whilst recognising its full autonomy.<br />
In return, the Association placed great emphasis on<br />
close collaboration with the <strong>Institute</strong>. In dealing with<br />
its EUI affiliates, the Association proposed that it be<br />

personally committed to getting<br />
the Alumni Association off the<br />
ground<br />
President Emil Noël saw the<br />
Association as an instrument for<br />
continuing and amplifying the EUI<br />
experience for alumni researchers<br />
President Werner Maihofer<br />
suggested that the formal<br />
establishment of the Association<br />
should take place for the tenth<br />
anniversary of the EUI<br />
President Patrick Masterson<br />
formalised the EUI degreeconferring<br />
ceremony and the<br />
Alumni weekend<br />
used to promote and reinforce relations of collaboration<br />
and friendship made at the Badia Fiesolana,<br />
bringing together various generations of student<br />
researchers and facilitating communication and the<br />
exchange of information between them.<br />
A constant presence, providing continuity and regularity<br />
in the life and development of the Association,<br />
was Brigitte Schwab, who showed great dedication to<br />
furthering the activities of the Association through<br />
