Operating results on track overall
The past financial year produced an
improvement in the figures for the entire
2005/06 period. Overall, we can look
back on a successful year.
Feintool itself made a very significant
contribution to this success. Based on
intensified development efforts, we managed
to ready new products which were
launched through active marketing. New
customers were acquired or won over
for new applications.
The economy also played a role of
course. Increasing global consumption
bolstered the willingness of industrial
players to invest. This applies particularly
to the productivity increases and cost
optimizations necessitated by competitive
pressures.
However, external circumstances and
internal occurrences prevented even
better results. Global pricing pressures
and production displacements between
continents call for leaner processes and
more flexible logistics. Raw materials
have become scarcer and more expensive.
Feintool is hard at work adapting
and optimizing.

The 5-day automobile
The primary objective of different carmakers, i.e.
maximum flexibility for making changes with the
shortest possible delivery time, is a reality for the
entire production chain of global suppliers. In
fact, the things that appeal most to consumers
represent a big problem for the supplier industry.
Regional breakdown
As always, Europe represents the most
important market for Feintool presses
and automation systems. This applies
primarily to the old EU countries but is
true increasingly also of the new EU
members and the rest of Eastern
Europe. The economies of the former
Soviet states are making gradual
progress.
Requirements in the parts and components
business for the automotive
industry are growing continuously.
Feintool is working to meet this challenge
with its ongoing improvement
programs and its wealth of expertise.
In North America, the systems customers
are less eager to invest. In the
parts business, competition has increased
in a shrinking market. Investment continues
to involve shifting production to
less expensive countries in South
America. Global customers with production
there are increasingly demanding
on-site production by their suppliers.
Feintool has decades of experience
as a supplier of fineblanking systems in
Japan, China and Korea, but the company
is encountering increased regional
competition in recent years. In the area
of riveting machines, the dense network
of representatives is working well.
In China, Feintool is enjoying great
success with its own sales and service
company Swisstec, which also acts as
a representative for well-known Swiss
and German companies.
In the components business, Feintool
has been able to gain a foothold primarily
in Japan as a successful supplier to
the automotive industry. The new plant
in Tokoname has also been useful for
supplying China.
In Thailand, production of plastic compound
components has begun.
