ii. Examination and Development of
restoration and preservation technique for
14 valuable Glass Negatives from Kolkata
Circle, Kolkata was carried out.
iii. Microscopic Metallographic and analytical
studies for the metal samples received
from Aurangabad Zone have been initiated.
iv. Studies have been initiated for evaluation
of efficacy of some consolidants on Granite
stones of Mahabalipuram (T.N.)
B. Air Pollution Monitoring Station Taj Mahal,
Agra: Air pollution monitoring laboratory, Agra
continued monitoring of ambient air quality in
an around Taj Mahal to study possible impact
of air pollutants on the monuments and to
formulate conservation measures accordingly.
The following measurements were carried out:
(i) Measurement of SO 2 and NO 2
concetration.
(ii) Measurement of Suspended Particulate
Matter.

(iii) Measurement of Dust Fall Rate.
(iv) Measurement of Sulphation Rate.
(v) Measurement of Temperature and Relative
Humidity.
(vi) Measurement of Wind speed and Direction.
C. Stone Conservation Laboratory, Agra Fort,
Agra
1) The Petrological Studies of the Inlayed
Stone Samples (Weathered as well as
fresh) being used in structural conservation
work, Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb, Agra is
being carried out.
2) Besides petrographic analysis of various
stone samples studies have also been
initiated by this laboratory for compressive
strength before and after application of
consolidant on the red sandstone of Agra
Fort and fresh red sandstone.
D. Field Laboratory, Ajanta: Diurnal recording
of temperature and relative humidity is being
carried out by Field Laboratory at Ajanta to
study the impact of above parameters on the
painted surfaces of the caves. This ultimately
helps to plan necessary measures for the
protection and preservation of wall paintings.
Emphasis is being given for treatments like
strengthening/consolidation of weak painted
plaster of the murals.
E. Air Quality Monitoring Station, Bibi ka
Maqbara, Aurangabad: Air Quality Monitoring
exercise has been in progress at Bibi ka
Maqbara, Aurangabad. Studies are being carried
out pertaining to monitoring of suspended
particulate matter in the ambient air in and
around the monument using High Volume
Sampler instrument. The data collected have
been useful in assessing the impact of pollutants
on the preservation and stability of the protected
monument.
