Physical Verification of antiquities
Under the Chairpersonship of Mrs. Kasturi Gupta
Menon, former Director General, National Museum,
New Delhi physical verification of antiquities is in
progress. The total number of antiquities verified during
the period under report are :
i) Art section : 283
ii) Archaeology section : 1333
iii) Anthropology section : 534
iv) Numismatic and Epigraphy : 1168
Other activities
i) An educational and cultural programme for the
students of hearing impair was arranged.
ii) An aldebra tortoise named ‘Adwaitya’ was
exhibited on the world Environment Day.
iii) The certificates for internship course on the
practical aspects of museology were distributed
to the students of the Department of Museology,
University of Calcutta.
iv) Visit of National Museum, Scotland supported
by British Council.
v) Participation in a workshop in Mumbai.
vi) The visit of H.E. Governor of West Bengal
and Hon’ble Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mr.
M. K. Narayanan on June 26, 2010.
vii) Condition report of objects for Brussels, Belgium
and Los Angeles, USA Exhibition was prepared.
viii) Condition report of objects was prepared for
China exhibition of ‘Buddhist Art through the
Ages’.
ix) Loan kits supplied to three educational
institutions.
x) Active participation by selective paintings, textiles
and Art objects for the International exhibition
on Los Angeles 2010, Indonesia, 2011 and
Mexico, 2011.
xi) Renovation of Ashutosh Birth Centenary Hall
is in progress.
xii) A new Mask Gallery was opened.
xiii) Two Kiosks were installed in Bharhut gallery
and in Gandhara gallery.
xiv) Participation in the workshop on ‘Rethinking
museums’ organized by the commonwealth
Association of Museums at Chattrapati
Maharaja Vastu Sangrahalya, Mumbai.
xv) Participation in the training programme on
‘Modern Display Technology’ was organized
by National Council of Science Museums, Salt
Lake, Kolkata.
xvi) A total of 12 archaeological objects were
selected for the exhibition on ‘Islamic Art’ in
Indonesia in 2011.
xvii) National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh has
been visited in connection with a staff exchange
programme to have knowledge of collection
management, Digitations and Identification of
Indian objects.
xviii) Eleven Glass fibre cast replicas were supplied
free of cost to the Arch. Survey of India, New
Delhi to put up on exhibition of Commonwealth
Games, 2010 at New Delhi.

coins’
