• Three members from Preservation Unit, VMH
attended a month long “Refresher Course for
the Conservators” during July 1-31, 2010 at
Government Museum, Chennai.
• Five members of the Restoration Unit
participated in the training course “Orientation
Workshop on Care and Maintenance of Cultural
Heritage” organized by the National Research
Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural
Properties” (NRLC), Lucknow from August 2
to 13, 2010.
• Three members from Conservation unit and one
member from Documentation unit attended
“JATAN: Virtual museum builder software
training” at Centre for Development for Advanced
Computing, Pune on October 5-6, 2010.
• Education Officer participated in the two-day
evaluation workshop on “Indian Life and
Landscape by the Western Artists” was held at
British Council, Delhi during November 8-9, 2010.
• Education Officer attended a six-day training
programme on “Modern Display Techniques”
held at Central Research & Training Laboratory
(NCSM), Kolkata from November 15-20, 2010.
• Education Officer participated in the study tour
“Future Present” of the leading museums in
U.K. from January 24 to February 1, 2011
jointly organized by British Council, Eastern
India and Ministry of Culture, Government of
India.
Repair and Renovation
Special repairing of the cracks and fissures in the
basement; annual maintenance of the building, furniture,
polishing and fittings of doors, windows, and
showcases; special repair to exterior of the western
side of Central Hall and Durbar Hall including lime
punning of the Durbar Hall with due replacement of
the damaged store casings; repairing and plastering of
the Royal Gallery, Library and Archives with due
application of painting and polishing works have been
carried out.
• Garden benches have been installed for the
visitors; pipelines have been laid and drinking
water platform constructed near south gate for
drinking water facility to the visitors; transformer
rooms and duty quarters have been renovated;
chain link fencing around the underground
reservoir has been fixed; and phase II & III
plots of garden have been developed.
• Two battery operated carts have been acquired
for surveillance along with dragon search light
and metal detectors and CCTV systems have
been repaired.
