Famous for its blue Mediterranean waters, authentic food and beautiful people, the tour begins in Cagliari in the south, where you can find 280-300 windy days every year (15-30 knots). There are more than six beaches to kite along and KA scouted out each spot to find the best conditions for waves, flat water and pure desolate beaches. The typical wind here is called the Scirocco from the south and southeast; it blows between 18 and 24 knots. It comes from the desert of Libya and Tunisia. The locals call it the perfect wind, like a fan. KA has two very knowledgeable guides who have been living in Sardinia for most of their kiting careers. It has doubled every year in the past four years. The riding is great for all levels. And we are proud of our terrain park! How does your shop support and help the kiteboarding community? Our primary goal is to support the growth of this sport. We want to make it safer and more fun for all. We have a specific area that we groom for teaching as well as a launch area for the general public. any issues with access or usage rights? The kite area is actually private, so having a permit to operate my business is essential. But anyone is welcome to come out and ride. Where do you draw riders from? Most of our riders are from the Front Range or Denver area, but it has also become a destination for snowkiters all over. There are a lot of ski resorts and other activities in the area, which is a bonus for vacationing here. What tips can you offer experienced kiters who want to kite at the Sanitarium? Our best conditions are sunny, high-pressure days with steady thermal winds from the north at 10-15 mph. Most websites are unreliable at predicting our mountain weather, but Wunderground.com seems to be all right. Or, just call us for current conditions…everyone else does! Where do you think the industry is headed in the future? Snowkiting still has a long way to go. There are certainly areas that are untapped and once they are, it has the potential to go mainstream. I look at it the same way snowboarding got its start. It is going to be ReALLY big in a few more years. What brands are you carrying this season?
