welcome
Once again, I’m honored to welcome you to Autodesk University. Now in
its 11th year, AU is the premier Autodesk learning and networking event.
That’s because thousands of technical professionals like you recognize its
value for personal productivity and professional growth.
Thanks to you and your suggestions, we’ve expanded the curriculum to
more that 300 classes and labs. World-class instructors cover topics you’ve
told us are important to you—everything from future trends like digital
signatures and Product Lifecycle Management to “use-’em-right-now” tips
and techniques to help improve your everyday job performance.
AU is a lot more than classes about circles and lines. It’s also about connecting with people. Take
advantage of all the networking opportunities this week: the AUGI ® Beer Bust, “Birds of a Feather”
Networking Lunch, Internet Café, social events, and more. Remember that you can learn as much
from colleagues you meet over lunch as you do from the excellent courses.
Check out the AU Exhibit Hall—and the AUGI Playpen—where you’ll get first-hand looks at the
latest products and services from Autodesk and its partners. I want to express gratitude to all the
sponsors and exhibitors who help make AU the leading industry event it is today.
This week, you’ll also learn about where technology is headed. Join us for the Main Stage
presentations on Wednesday morning when I’ll introduce Autodesk executives. They’ll share their
insights into the next big trends that will affect all of us. You’ll also see how innovative companies
are using technology to get and stay ahead of their competition. Stop by the Autodesk Design
Awards gallery to see the amazing work some of your colleagues are doing. And be sure to attend
your Industry Session on Thursday at 5:00 pm. Autodesk officials will discuss the next releases
of your software, and you’ll get a chance to influence future product development with your
questions and suggestions.
Come have fun at the Thursday evening comedy-and-movie event with special guest John Cleese,
who’ll entertain us before and after a showing of the cult comedy classic Monty Python and the
Holy Grail.
And finally, as always, we want to hear your ideas about ways to continue improving AU. Please
complete your conference evaluation form and you’ll receive a free Autodesk University T-shirt
celebrating this year’s event.
It’s all here at Autodesk University.
Intel—Gold Sponsor
For more than three decades, Intel Corporation has developed
technology enabling the computer and Internet revolution
that has changed the world. Founded in 1968 to build semiconductor
memory products, Intel introduced the world’s first
microprocessor in 1971. Today, Intel supplies the computing
and communications industries with chips, boards, systems,
and software building blocks that are the “ingredients” of
computers, servers, and networking and communications
products. These products are used by industry members to
create advanced computing and communications systems.
Intel’s mission is to be the preeminent building block supplier
to the Internet economy. Intel has established a competitive
edge through its scale of operations, the agility of its factory
network, and its consistent execution worldwide. The
company’s technology investments differentiate Intel from
competitors and provide the foundation for future growth.
IBM—Silver Sponsor
Development resources for IBM ® IntelliStation ® workstations
are unmatched, from research to integration to testing. IBM
system engineers work directly with leading software vendors
to compatibility-test and certify leading engineering, digital
media, financial, and office productivity applications on
IntelliStation. They have rigorously tested an extensive
portfolio of applications to help ensure that your essential
software stays up and running reliably and efficiently. So you
can focus on the business at hand while IBM attends to the
technology.
IntelliStation workstations are certified for a range of
advanced operating systems, including Microsoft ® Windows ®
2000 Professional, Windows XP, and major Linux distributions.
IntelliStation owners are afforded a unique level of Web-based
support through Ask IntelliStation, a dedicated team of
system engineers online for pre- and post-sales questions,
Microsoft is a driving force behind the personal computer
revolution. From the Microsoft ® Windows ® family of operating
systems to the Microsoft Office family of productivity
applications, Microsoft has changed the way we work,
communicate, and play. With the release of Windows XP
company get there first. Fast!
Carl Bass will provide a progress report on the new world of
strategic design technologies, where we’ve come from, where
we’re going, and the quick-to-implement technologies and
smart services that are available to you right now. He’ll also
discuss how Autodesk is becoming even more customerdriven
and preview the exciting developments to watch for
in the coming year.
