During the last couple of years, as a result of the financial crisis, the role of rating agencies has come under
scrutiny in Europe and in the USA. The EU has been concerned in particular with the de facto oligopoly of rating
agencies and its effects. The experience in Europe might be useful for Africa.
The Round Table aims to bring together African and European experts in order to exchange views about the role
of the ‘big three’ agencies in Africa and on the chances of other or new rating agencies, in general and in the
context of the EPAs [please insert full name].
The purpose of the discussions is to develop specific policy recommendations for the EU and AU, to be used by
them in the context of JAES. [please insert full name].
