Woodcote Park was destroyed
by fire on the night of 1 August
1934. Fortunately, the fire
caused electric alarm bells to
ring, which led to its discovery
and a hasty evacuation.
Workmen demolished the ruins,
but the double-winged staircase
at the front of the building was
preserved. A catering marquee
was erected and temporary
wooden huts were built to house
members until the new building
was completed. Golfers were out
in force, unperturbed by the
fateful events. The clubhouse
reopened in May 1936.
FouR Men and a
Challenge
Members James Dubois, Martin
Matthews, Martin Morris and
John Bromley embarked on a
48-hour challenge to do as many
activities as possible in the
clubhouses in September. ‘It
never ceases to surprise me that
members say: “I didn’t know
about that” to all sorts of
facilities available’, says James.
They breakfasted at Woodcote,
backgammoned at Pall Mall, had
beauty treatments, snoozed in
the club room, did pilates, wined,
dined, and danced the night
away - totalling some 50
activities! The reason we did it?’
says James, ‘because we have
two fabulous clubhouses so let’s
use them to the hilt.’ Read more,

Renewal 2012
The invitation to renew your club membership will be
with you in November and the forms will indicate your
membership fees plus any additional costs such as golf
passes or lockers. Membership cards for 2012 will be sent
on receipt of the form and payment of fees. Do check that
