Random House Children’s Books
supports the First Amendment and
celebrates the right to read.
In fact, we’ll say so on every book.
Have you seen
our First Amendment
First Aid Kit?
Visit www.firstamendment
firstaid.com for:
◆ Bookseller, librarian,
and teacher guidelines
on responding to book
challenges
◆ A list of organizations that
can assist
◆ Sample letter in support of
books under attack
◆ Downloadable posters
and graphics
By the end of 2008, a statement of support for the
First Amendment will appear on the copyright page
of every book we publish.
Through e-mail campaigns, resource lists and links,
poster distributions, and participation in Banned
Books Week, Random House Children’s Books
works to advocate for the First Amendment and
provide assistance to those fighting censorship
across the industry.
PLANS FOR 2008 INCLUDE:
◆ A continued partnership with the
National Coalition Against
Censorship
◆ A new guide for parents and
teachers on talking to kids about
censorship
◆ A banned book giveaway on the
sidewalks of New York City!
We’re always looking for new ways to respond—
and help others respond—to censorship issues. If you
have suggestions, or stories to share, please contact us at
