Smok<strong>in</strong>g prevalence <strong>in</strong>creased with age for cigarette and waterpipe smok<strong>in</strong>g. For the
cigarette smokers it peaked <strong>in</strong> the 40–50 age group while for the waterpipe the peak prevalence
was detected above the age of 50 years (Figure 4.3).
A steady decrease <strong>in</strong> the mean age of smok<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itiation <strong>in</strong> successive birth cohorts were
observed among cigarette and waterpipe smokers (Figure 4.4).
