Police Department Students Serving Students<br />

The UConn Police Department is a fully<br />

operational 24-hour department composed <strong>of</strong><br />

approximately 50 police <strong>of</strong>ficers. The department<br />

contains its own 911 center, which is the only<br />

one in the state outside a town or city, except the<br />

center at Bradley International Airport. There is<br />

a permanent foot-patrol <strong>of</strong>ficer in the center <strong>of</strong><br />

campus in addition to other foot-patrol shifts and<br />

motorcycle police <strong>of</strong>ficers. The <strong>University</strong> has<br />

over 250 outdoor emergency call boxes, and is<br />

installing new boxes regularly.<br />

GUARD Dogs is a free non-judgmental, completely<br />

student run safe-ride program which is the only one<br />

<strong>of</strong> its kind on the UConn campus. GUARD Dog<br />

volunteers provide safe rides to students Friday<br />

and Saturday nights from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.<br />
