18. Persuade your student to develop a network <strong>of</strong><br />
peers, administrators, faculty and staff they can<br />
count on for advice and guidance.<br />
19. Make sure your student updates any address<br />
changes in the Student Administration System.<br />
20. If your student begins to get into academic<br />
trouble refer your student to the First Year<br />
Programs Office early on at 860-486-3378.<br />
21. Students who get involved on campus have<br />
greater academic success than students who<br />
only study. UConn has more than 500 clubs<br />
and organizations. Encourage your student to<br />
explore what is available and don’t believe the<br />
“there’s nothing to do at UConn” line.<br />
22. Don’t be upset if you do not hear from your<br />
student during the first week <strong>of</strong> classes.<br />
Rather, be pleased that they are fitting in so<br />
well, having a good time and they are keeping<br />
busy.<br />
23. Most <strong>of</strong> all, keep a sense <strong>of</strong> humor no matter<br />
what you see or hear. It will all work out!<br />
