Centaurium erythraea<br />

Status:<br />

Environmental weed<br />

Features: Annual or biennial herb with a basal<br />

rosette of leaves. Clusters of pink flowers borne on<br />

erect stems up to 50cm high in summer. Common<br />

weed in disturbed areas and follows disturbance<br />

into good quality bushland.<br />

Dispersal: Seed is spread a short distance by wind,<br />

and moved further by water and soil.<br />

NOXIOUS<br />

Regionally controlled<br />

Serious pasture weed<br />

Becoming more common in <strong>Manningham</strong><br />

Features: Erect, biennial herb to 1m, growing from<br />

a basal rosette of ovate leaves with distinct lateral<br />

veins, leaves lanceolate on erect stems. Flowers are<br />

bluish–purple and tubular with stamens protruding.<br />

Proliferates where soil is disturbed or overgrazed.<br />

Dispersal: Seeds often brought in by hay, on<br />

machinery or by soil movement. Grows rapidly and<br />

outcompetes pasture.<br />
