Sweet Pittosporum<br />

Status:<br />

Very serious environmental weed<br />

Garden escape<br />

Features: Small tree to 10m. Naturally occurring in<br />

the east of Victoria, but a very serious weed in this<br />

region. Masses of white scented flowers in spring<br />

which develop into orange berries in autumn. Shiny,<br />

smooth and glossy leaves with wavy mirgins and<br />

yellow–green to dark green in colour. Produce a<br />

distinctive odour when crushed.<br />

Dispersal: Sticky seeds. Mainly blackbirds, also<br />

other birds and foxes.<br />

Hakea salicifolia<br />

Status:<br />

Environmental weed<br />

Garden escape<br />

Features: Fast growing shrub to 5m, clusters of<br />

creamy white flowers in late winter to spring, hard<br />

nut–like fruit. Dull yellowish to dark green long leaves<br />

on brown stem.<br />

Dispersal: Seed is mainly dispersed by wind. Also<br />

contaminated mulch.<br />
