Unusual early 1800 Captains secretary, flame and solid mahogany, foldover writing surface with
drawers and compartments under writing surface, set back drawer above open base, turned columns,
turned and spiral reeded legs, Gothic arch panel doors, reeded brass mullions, flared cornice, 32"w
64"t 20"d 32" writing surface, 9 1/2" d interior, this is rare to be seen in secretary form. Good finish/

This fine piece came out of the Baltimore area. A comparable desk ordered by G Washington for
Mt Vernon in 1797 from J Aitken, Phila can be seen at this webpage (with crest) another site
(without crest), about halfway down the page.
There is also a comparable desk with eglomoise panels displayed at the Westervelt Warner
museum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama www.WarnerMuseum.org (that desk is not displayed on their
website but is discussed in the book An American Odyssey, pg 171/1).
Restored old finish, repairs to original feet, one replaced 17"w backboard, three original adjustable

Hard to find Victorian brass Hitchcock patent lamp, wind up fan mechanism for draft to burner,
advertised in 18 to burn fourteen hours from one tank, 13"t. Good old patina, 1" dent on tank, working
wind up mechanism, this lamp is duscussed/photographed in Oil Lamps, Thuro, page 69/70, G Jones &
R. Hitchcock in 1868.
Exceptional 1830 Empire box sofa, fine flame mahogany, matched flame and rosewood crossbanded
arch back with scroll crest, finely carved rosette and cornucopia scroll above large roll arms, deep
double shell carved front above inset panel with satinwood line inlay molding, ovolo skirt, scroll
