the arceau watch
In focusing the year 2012 on the theme of
Time, Hermès has chosen to enrich the
Arceau line with a new collection. The famous
watch featuring asymmetrical lugs reasserts
its soberly understated elegance by
appearing in new dimensions and accommodating
Manufacture calibres.
The Arceau Ecuyère model is equipped with
a Manufacture movement made for Hermès
by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. Its name is
H1912, in reference to the date of the photo
on which Jacqueline Hermès is shown wearing
a “porte-oignon”, meaning a clever system
serving to attach a pocket-watch to the wrist.
Its dial bears a stamped radiating motif centered
around the small seconds, highlighted
by a delicate decorative fillet. Displaying an
innate flair for details, Hermès has set the
crown of this watch with a rose-cut diamond.
This new collection is composed of five models:
one in gem-set steel, two in rose gold, and
two in gem-set rose gold with a matte blue,
havana or black alligator strap.
Designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, the
Arceau watch is immediately recognizable:
the horns have disappeared on either side of
the round case, replaced by two lugs echoing
the shape and curve of a stirrup. This aesthetic
principle ensures the closest possible
fit between strap and case, as if the leather
were holding the metal. Watchmaking enthusiasts
and devotees of fine craftsmanship will
find in these models the essential spirit of
the House: that of an object born of creative
passion and carefully mastered production.
The plates are circular-grained and snailed,
the oscillating weight is satin-brushed and
adorned with a sprinkling of H symbols – the
iconic Hermès pattern – as are the bridges,
which also feature original cut-out shapes.

line is renowned for.
Heretofore, the Hampton Women collection
was offered only in a generously sized 40
x 27.1mm version. The new delicately sized
quartz watches feature a 34.5 x 22mm case
that is at once charming and alluring, and
brings the line to a new seductive, ultra-feminine
level. With this further enrichment of
the ergonomically appealing line, these three
superb models for women – by virtue of their
smaller size – are a great fit for any wrist.
The stunning watch features a shimmering
integrated polished and satined-finish steel
bracelet that complements the men’s Hampton
steel bracelet version – making them perfect
for his-and-her gifts to mark important
moments in life such as weddings and anniversaries.
The integrated bracelet on these
exquisite petite models is equipped with a
simple-to-use triple-folding security clasp
and coordinates masterfully with the polished
and satin-finished small curved rectangular
Hampton case.
Each graceful Hampton watch magnificently
offers date indication at 3:00. Two of the
three new Hampton Women small watches
feature feminine mother-of-pearl dials with
Top Wesselton, VS quality diamonds. One
version is bedecked with 8 diamonds on the
mother-of-pearl dial, while another model is
adorned with 20 diamonds on the elegantly
curved case. The non-diamond model is a
statement of active sophistication, with gilt
Arabic numerals on the sun satin-finished and
opaline silver colored dial.
The new series of watches offers a decorated
case back, which is held in place by four
screws and is engraveable – a further testament
to commemorating occasions. The ultra
feminine Hampton Women small watches are
fitted with scratch-resistant curved sapphire
crystals and are water-resistant to 5ATM (approximately
50m). Each of these wonderful
new watches further underscores Baume &
Mercier’s commitment to the feminine segment
without sacrificing elegance and quality.
