Keeping warm
Keeping warm is crucial to good health, but it
can be a great burden on finances. There are
grants and measures available to make homes
warmer and to help you save money on fuel
bills. The council is working closely with the
Merton seniors group and CareConnect a free,
confidential, impartial public information
service available to people living, working or
studying in Merton. CareConnect is available
to drop-in enquirers through Merton Link
at the civic centre without an appointment
between 10am and 2pm, Monday to Friday.
FEBRUARY - MARCH 2009 • FEATURE
New way of banking
Credit Unions are savings and loans
co-operatives which encourage people to save
rather than borrow, but also provide low cost
loans to members in times of need. They help
to reduce many people’s reliance on doorstep
lenders, pawnbrokers and loan sharks.
Merton Council is working with partners
in Sutton and Croydon to put your needs first
and develop a cross-borough credit union.
The application to the Financial Services
Authority (FSA) will need to demonstrate
significant support from local people. If
the FSA approves the application, Merton
residents will be able to take advantage of
Credit Union services from Autumn 2009.
Please help us and pledge your support
