2009 is Haydn Year and
as part of the bicentennial
celebrations the Hill Singers
will be presenting an all
Haydn concert, complete
with orchestra, featuring
the motet’s Insanae et
vanae curae, the London
Symphony no 104 and
the Harmoniemesse. The
performance will take place
at St Matthew’s Church,
Durham Road, Wimbledon,
on 21 March at 8pm. Tickets
are £9 with concessions
£7 on the door.
Polka Theatre – The Jolly Postman
Once upon a bicycle, so they say, a jolly
postman came one day from over the
hills and far away. The story of the Jolly
Postman has captivated children from
across the world for many generations,
and now, for the first time the Polka
Theatre, in The Broadway, Wimbledon,
is bringing this enchanting picture book
to life on stage. Don’t miss this much-
loved tale of a helpful postman and all
your favourite fairytale characters.

Elijah at Guildford Cathedral
on Saturday 28 March
at 7.30pm.
Mendelssohn composed his
popular choral masterpiece
in homage to his baroque
predecessors Bach and
Handel. The society will
be performing with the
New Queen’s Hall orchestra
along with baritone
James Rutherford as
Elijah, soprano Mary
Nelson and mezzo-soprano
Frances Bourne.
